The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called on the authorities responsible for the arrest and detention of Colonel Osama Muhammad Saleh Al Ghafir Al Obeid to release him immediately. 

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has recognized the arbitrary nature of the deprivation of liberty of Libyan citizen Ali Suleiman Masoud Abdel Sayed and stressed the responsibility of the Libyan government for the violations committed against him. 

On 14 August 2023, Alkarama urgently addressed the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances regarding the disappearance of the two brothers Aboubakr and Embarek AL KHAZMI after their arrest by the combined forces of Misrata on 7 September 2021 at their family home located in Beni Walid (180 km southwest of Tripoli). 

Disappeared after arrest 

On 20 July 2023, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances regarding the case of Faraj Abdullah Al Daguel, who has disappeared since his arrest by a group of soldiers on 1 November 2022 in Sabha (south-west, Libya).

On 27 March 2023, Alkarama submitted to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention the case of Libyan citizen Ali Sulaiman Masoud ABDEL SAYED arrested by members of the 8th Security Division of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) on 17 August 2016 at 10 p.m. on public roads in Ain Zara (southern Tripoli).

At the conclusion of its visit to Libya, the UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya stressed the responsibility of the Libyan authorities to take decisive steps to provide justice and redress to the vast number of victims suffering long-standing violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the country.
