The "Stop the Execution" campaign confirms that the death sentences issued in Egypt recently, the executions of 105 political detainees, and executions that can be carried out at any time against 95 of those sentenced to death, especially those who had their final and enforceable sentences in 18 cases among the cases described as political, are kinds of (political revenge), far from trying to achieve justice via fair trials with its guarantees and principles, which must be adhered to by everyone, especially the judicial and executive authorities.

Alkarama confirmed that the Sudanese authorities had released four political detainees, following court decisions to acquit them of all charges against them. Alkarama had submitted their cases to the United Nations human rights mechanisms.

The family of prominent Yemeni politician Mohammed Qahtan keeps suffering from their relative’s seventh years of enforced disappearance. He had been kidnapped by Houthi gunmen shortly after their takeover in September 2014.

On 31 March 2022, Alkarama submitted its report on the human rights situation in Algeria in view of its upcoming Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by the Human Rights Council scheduled for 7-18 November 2022 in Geneva.

History of the UPR

In its Opinion No. 62/2021 issued on November 17, 2021, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) considered the deprivation of liberty of Libyan citizens, Abdelhakim Imbarak Muhammad Ali and Sulaiman Muhammad Salim Sulaiman, as arbitrary. The victims had been arrested in the course of 2016 by the Special Deterrence Forces, government-backed militias known as "RADAA", before being detained at Mitiga detention center.

On 21 March 2022, Alkarama addressed the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances regarding the situation of Osama Muhammad Saleh AL GHAFIR AL OBEID, a colonel in the Libyan army taken prisoner on 07 december 2016 by General Khalifa Haftar's militias in the Sidra region (west, Tripoli).

The daughter of a Uighur activist detained in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Waili AIMOUDOULA, has raised her concerns over the deportation of her father and his friend, to urge them not to extradite to China, Mr. Waili AIMOUDOULA and his friend Mr. Ruze NUERMAIMAITI to the Chinese authorities, fearing they will be tortured and could lose their lives.

On 10 March 2022, Alkarama sent a communication to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) regarding brigadier general Gamaleldeen Al Shaheed, who was arrested at his home on 29 June 2020 by the military intelligence services under the command of Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan.

Saudi authorities have released prominent Saudi blogger Raif Badawi after his ten-year prison sentence ended. He was sentenced following an unfair trial and as punishment for exercising his right to freedom of expression. However, he remains today banned from travelling for another ten years.

On the evening of Monday, 7 March 2022, and after 67 days of detention, the Tunisian authorities released Mr Noureddine Al-Behairi, Ennahda parliamentarian and former Minister of Justice, as well as Mr Fathi Al-Baladi, former adviser to the Ministry of the Interior. Following their arrests, Alkarama had referred their cases to UN experts.
