Mauritania: Incommunicado detention, torture and risk of forcible return to Tunisia of Mr. Abdelkrim Bouraoui

Alkarama wrote a communication on 22 July 2008 to the Special Rapporteur on Torture  concerning Mr. Bouraoui, a Tunisian national, arrested on 3 May 2008 at Nouakchott.  He was detained incommunicado for 25 days and severely tortured. He was then taken to a military barracks of the army headquarters, where he is still detained.

Mr.Abdelkrim Ben Fraj Bouraoui, born in 1980 in Tunisia, owns a trade of vehicle spare parts in Nouakchott where he has regularly resided since 2005.

Saudi Arabia: Arbitrary detention since 2004 of the engaged poet Saleh Al Hweiti

Alkarama for Human Rights sent a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) asking it to intervene in the case of Mr. Saleh Al Hweiti, engaged poet, arbitrarily detained since October 27, 2004.

Mr. Saleh Awad Saleh AL HWEITI was born in Riyadh in 1946. His father, former soldier who died in 1978, belongs to the vast nomadic Arab tribe of Anza from the Arabian peninsula that used to wander also in southern Jordan. He was stripped of his nationality in 1969 as part of his family was established in the desert of Jordan.

Saudi Arabia: M. Abdulrahim Al-Murbati, a native of Bahrain, missing since June 06, 2008

Alkarama sent a communication to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) asking it to intervene urgently with the Saudi authorities in the case of Mr. Abdulrahim Al-Murbati, Bahraini citizen, detained without due process of law since August 22, 2003 in Saudi Arabia and whose family has receiving no news about him since June 06, 2008.

Mr. Abdulrahim Ali Abdellah AL-MURBATI was born on December 28, 1960 in Bahrain, he is a merchant and his family lives in Bahrain.

Libya: Abdussalam Il-Khwildy's case before the Human Rights Committee

On 3 July 2008, Alkarama for Human Rights and TRIAL (Track Impunity Always) have jointly submitted an individual communication to the United Nations Human Rights Committee  regarding the case of Mr. Abdussalam Il-Khwildy, a victim of serious human rights violations by the Libyan authorities.

Abdussalam-Khwildy was born on October 18, 1967, holds a degree in economics, works as an entrepreneur, is married and father of five children and lives in Benghazi, Libya.

Kuwait: Torture and ill-treatment of Mr. Al-Dhafeery

Alkarama sent a communication to the Special Rapporteur on Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, about Mr. Adel Al-Dhafeery who was arrested May 22, 2008 by agents of the Internal Security and transferred in their headquarters where he was brutally tortured.

Mr. Adel Al-Aqel Salem Dhafeery, aged 27 and living in Al-Jahra, Al-Ouyoun, Kuwait, was arrested May 22 in 2008 around 17 hours in Al-Jahra while travelling from his home in his vehicle. He was deliberately and violently bumped by a black police vehicle.

Yemen: The Working Group of the United Nations finds that the detention of Mr. Al Chouiter was arbitrary

Alkarama has just been officially informed by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) of the Opinion 9 / 2008 of 8 May 2008 on Arbitrary Detention which has been the victim M. Saqar Al Chouiter, arrested April 7, 2007 and released after 52 days of detention.

Alkarama had requested the WGAD in a communication dated May 9, 2007 that it declares the detention of Mr. Al Chouiter as arbitrary.

Algeria: enforced disappearance of Adel Saker

Alkarama wrote on June 30, 2008 a communication to the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) and the Special Rapporteur on Torture to ask them to intervene urgently with the Algerian authorities in the case of Mr. Adel Saker, a victim of enforced disappearance since May 26, 2008.

Mr. Saker Adel, born on January 28, 1977, had already been arrested in 1994 when he was a minor and held for three years before being released.
