Within a month, the Al Minya Criminal Court handed down in two separate verdicts 1212 death sentences following blatantly unfair and speedy trials in relation to the demonstrations that happened on 14 August 2013. In the first case, 37 Muslim Brotherhood supporters had their death sentence, issued on 24 March 2014, upheld, while the 491 remaining accused had their sentence commuted into life imprisonment. In the second case, 683 alleged supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi, including the Muslim Brotherhood's leader Mohammed Badie, were also sentenced to death on 28 April 2014.

On 12 December 2012, Mohamed Al Salaimeh, a 17 year-old Palestinian from Hebron, was shot several times at the checkpoint of Al Salaimeh district by the Israeli military. He died on his birthday. More than a year later, those responsible for his execution have not been brought to justice. Today, Alkarama solicited the intervention of the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions to intervene with the Israeli authorities on the behalf of his family.

On 15 April 2014, 34 year-old prominent Saudi human rights defender Waleed Abu Al Khair, went to his 5th hearing session before the Special Criminal Court in Riyadh. At 8 am, he made a last phone call to his wife in Jeddah, informing her he had to turn off his cellular phone as he was entering the court room. She learnt the day after that he had been taken in the middle of his hearing to Al Hayer Prison. This is where he has been unlawfully detained and tortured ever since.

Members of the Yasin family were arrested on 9 and 11 March 2013 by the Syrian Military Intelligence at their home in Damascus. Rania, Abdul Rahman, Dima, Entisar, Najah, Alaa, Ahmad and Lian have been disappeared ever since... It has been over a year and their fate and whereabouts remain unknown.

Naef Al Refai, a Syrian military judge arrested on 22 March 2012 and disappeared for two years, is currently arbitrarily detained in Sednaya Prison, near Damascus.

Ahmed Maher, Mohamed Adel and Ahmed Douma are amongst the first Egyptian activists to be convicted on the basis of the new restrictive assembly law n°107-2013. On 22 December 2013, they were sentenced by the Abdeen Misdemeanour Appeals Court to three years of imprisonment for having allegedly "demonstrated without permission" and "assaulting the police" and are currently being unlawfully detained in Tora Prison.

Ayesh Al Harby, a 41 year-old Saudi refugee, has been repeatedly detained and tortured in Iraq since his first arrest in July 2005. In 2009, he was sentenced by Al Rusafa court, Baghdad, to 15 years imprisonment following a grossly unfair trial. Ayesh and fifty eight other Saudi prisoners were transferred mid-March from Al Rusafa Prison to Al Nasiriyah, a maximum security prison located 300 km south-east of Baghdad, following a decision issued by the Ministry of Justice.
