On 6 November 2023, Alkarama submitted to the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the case of Salman AL KHALDI, a Kuwaiti activist sentenced in absentia on 26 September 2023 to five years in prison by the Supreme Court for posts on social networks. 

Arrest for publications 

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called on the authorities responsible for the arrest and detention of Colonel Osama Muhammad Saleh Al Ghafir Al Obeid to release him immediately. 

Today, Alkarama joined 51 international and Yemeni organisations working on freedom of opinion, expression and human rights in Yemen in calling for the establishment of a joint international and local independent commission to investigate crimes committed against journalists by all parties to the conflict in the country.

Alkarama, 41 international and local organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression and human rights, condemned the blocking and censorship of the Internet in Yemen and stressed the need for immediate action to end the disturbing violations of digital freedoms, the right of access to information and the right to demonstrate and protest. 

Alkarama and forty Arab human rights organizations have issued a joint statement condemning what they qualified as "genocide" and "crimes against humanity" committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the residents of the Gaza Strip.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has recognized the arbitrary nature of the deprivation of liberty of Libyan citizen Ali Suleiman Masoud Abdel Sayed and stressed the responsibility of the Libyan government for the violations committed against him. 

On 11 October 2023, Alkarama submitted its contribution on the human rights situation in Yemen in view of its next Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by the Human Rights Council scheduled between 29 April and 10 May 2024. 

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker Türk, warned of the repercussions of collective punishment imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinians in Gaza and the targeting of civilians, stressing that bitter experiences have shown that "vengeance is not the answer, and ultimately innocent civilians pay the price." 

On 2 October 2023, Alkarama submitted its alternative report to the Committee against Torture (CAT) in view of Egypt's upcoming review.

On 10 October 2023, on the occasion of the International Day against the Death Penalty, Alkarama and several human rights organisations issued a joint statement denouncing the death sentences handed down following political trials in Egypt.
