Alkarama shares the joy of the families of those forcibly disappeared and arbitrarily detained in Syria as they reunite with their loved ones after years of disappearance and terror under the oppressive familial regime that has gripped the Syrian people for nearly 54 years. 

Alkarama has filed an urgent appeal to the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and other special procedures, calling for immediate action regarding FIFA’s bidding process for the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Alkarama has learned that a Saudi court sentenced Yemeni pilgrim Mahmood Hamid Qaid Al-Broushi to 18 years in prison. He has been detained in Dhahban prison since April 2022 under fabricated charges and subjected to a trial lacking fairness, according to testimonies from the victim’s relatives. 

In addressing violence against women in the Arab world, Alkarama focuses on a type of violence that is often overlooked by many human rights organisations: violence perpetrated or condoned by the state against female citizens.

Alkarama, along with 21 human rights organizations, has called for urgent action to safeguard the future of children in Yemen. They highlighted the critical issues children face, including violence, forced recruitment, sexual abuse, and deprivation of humanitarian aid.

In a statement marking World Children’s Day on November 20, the organizations emphasized that thousands of children have fallen victim to over a decade of war, compounded by severe violations of their rights.

On November 7, 2024, Alkarama submitted the case of Mr. Tidjani AMRI, an investigative journalist, to the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC). Mr. AMRI was abducted on 27 May 2019, in Tébessa and taken to the Ben-Aknoun detention center, where he was tortured until 4 June 2019, by the military. 

A report issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights indicates that, based on the verification of the identities of victims killed during the Israeli offensive on Gaza, approximately 70% of the recorded casualties consist of women and children. 

Iraq, a party to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance since November 23, 2010, is called upon to act to locate the victims of enforced disappearance and to provide concrete answers to families seeking truth and justice.
