The United Nations (UN) Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya has expressed deep concern about the deteriorating human rights situation in the country and concluded that there are grounds to believe that the state, security forces and armed militias have committed a wide range of crim

On 3 April 2023, Alkarama referred to the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions and the Special Rapporteur on torture the case of Abdulsamed Esmail Mohammed Salem, a Yemeni businessman tortured to death by members of the Saudi security services during his detention at the General Administration for Drug Control centre in Jazan (southwest).

Alkarama addressed UN human rights experts regarding the case of Yemeni politician and Islah party leader Mohammed QAHTAN, who disappeared after his arrest at his home in Sana'a.

On 20 March 2023, UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances called on Iraq to reveal the fate of Iraqi citizen Yahya AL JABOURI, who has disappeared since his abduction on 8 July 2014 from his home. 

On 27 March 2023, Alkarama submitted to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention the case of Libyan citizen Ali Sulaiman Masoud ABDEL SAYED arrested by members of the 8th Security Division of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) on 17 August 2016 at 10 p.m. on public roads in Ain Zara (southern Tripoli).

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment,

Awad Al-Qarni, a 65-year-old law professor and prominent Saudi preacher, was arrested by the intelligence services (Mahabith) in 2017 during the massive crackdown on preachers, human rights defenders, journalists and businessmen including members of the royal family. He is accused of using social networks (Twitter and WhatsApp) to spread information interpreted as "hostile" to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The families of political prisoners in the Badr Prison, north-east of Cairo, have called for the right to visit their loved ones and for the lifting of the restrictions imposed on the prisoners.

 

The director of Alkarama, lawyer Rachid Mesli, participated in a conference on the situation of human rights in Tunisia, organised by the Association of Victims of Torture (AVTT) in the margins of the 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.    

Human rights organizations that signed this statement express their grave concern about the severe violations committed by the Egyptian authorities inside the "Badr Rehabilitation and Correction Center" also known as the "Badr Prisons Complex 1, 2, 3". These actions constitute a flagrant violation of the Egyptian constitution, laws, international treaties, and conventions, as well as a clear violation of the minimum standards for the treatment of prisoners established by the United Nations.
