Sofiane Alazami left Fez to go to Casablanca while looking for work. He called his mother on 5 May around 4:00 a.m. to let her know that he was in Casablanca but that he would soon return to Fez.
After several days without news, his family reported his disappearance to the police. The father thus learned that the numbers of the calls they had received originated at the switchboard of the Maarif police station in Casablanca.
The father of Sofiane Alazami went to several police stations to inquire if his son was there but the authorities he spoke to refused to acknowledge either his arrest or detention. He was therefore clearly a victim of an enforced disappearance.
