Alkarama received news of a large prison strike of prisoners inside Tripoli's Jadida prison.

Four day ago, the prisoners began a hunger strike to put pressure on the Libyan authorities to alleviate their suffering, and in protest against the decision of amnesty issued by the Libyan authorities that gives the prisoners general rights. The order came on the fortieth anniversary of the Libyan revolution, at the beginning of this month. Nevertheless, the purpose of the order has not been upheld.

On 15 September 2009, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar's detention was prolonged for a further 15 day period. The 6th such extension since his arrest on 2 July 2009.

On 7 June 2009, while crossing the Yemeni-Saudi border at Al-Tiwal, Mohamed Naji Rashed Al-Hamadani was arrested by Saudi Immigration Police (Rijal Al-Jawazat) and later detained by Saudi Intelligence at Jizan Prison. He is currently being detained arbitrarily Al-Qassim Prison in Saudi.

Alkarama sent a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on 15 September 2009 asking them to intervene with the Saudi authorities in order that Mr Al-Hamadani be released or brought to justice.

On 17 May 2009, during a raid on a family celebration by State Security Investigative (SSI) forces, a group of 26 Egyptian nationals (16 of whom are currently detained) were arrested at Ahmed Hussein Eid's apartment in Damanhur, Al-Bahira governorate.
On his way home from midday prayers, Amin Al-Naggar noticed that someone was following him - he soon realized that Political Security agents were slowly pursuing him in military vehicles. Suspicious of their presence, he continued walking uncertain of what might happen. Within minutes, a plain-clothed agent confronted him and began to question him.
On 14 Feburary 2005, while living in Lebanon, Ziad Wasef Ramadan was questioned by Lebanese authorities in connection with the assassination of Rafiq Al-Hariri.
Arrested on 13 December 2002 at Dubai airport by State Security forces (Amn Al-Dawla), Mr Nabil Al-Hassani was tortured in their custody for 76 days before being transferred to Saudi Arabia where he remains detained without trial.

Mr Al-Hassani, 34, is a Saudi national who works in charity for the people of Kurdistan.

Abdullah Awad was arrested on 25 March 2009 at his home in Al-Arish, northern Sinai, by State Security Intelligence (SSI) and held incommunicado for 2 months at their headquarters in Nasr City, Cairo, during which time he was brutally tortured.

On 11 September 2009, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the Special Rapporteur on Torture asking him to intervene with the Egyptian authorities in order to guarantee the physical and psychological integrity of Mr Abdullah Awad.
