Awad Al Hayki, a 33 year-old Yemeni national has been detained in Al Qasim Prison since 18 October 2010, the day he was extradited by Qatar to the Saudi authorities. Detained in solitary confinement for almost a year, without being able to communicate with his family, he has been subjected to severe torture. To date, Al Hayiki has never been charged.

On 15 January 2015, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture (SRT) regarding the case of Anas Mohamed Mohamed Khamis, a 17-year-old Egyptian student arrested by the police of Alexandria on 26 November 2014. He has since been detained in the police station of Sidi Gaber, where he was subjected to various acts of torture and ill-treatment, including sexual abuse.

On 12 January 2015, Alkarama sent a communication to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) to call upon the Iraqi authorities to put an end to the arbitrary detention of Ahmad Al Alwani, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, by releasing him immediately.

During its 71st session held in Geneva on 28 August 2014, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) adopted an opinion on the case of Tariq Mostafa Marei and Abdel Karim Al Mustafa, two Lebanese citizens sentenced on 6 August 2013 to 15 years in prison, following a flawed trial. In this opinion, the WGAD considers their detention "arbitrary" and calls for their immediate release.

On 5 January 2015, Alkarama sent a communication to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism regarding the case of Hanene Chaouch, a young volunteer advocating in favour of orphans - held and tortured by the Tunisian authorities under the pretext of the fight against terrorism led by the Tunisian state for the last few years.

On 6 January 2015, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) to demand the immediate release of an Egyptian minor, Seif Al Islam Osama Shousha, arbitrarily arrested and detained since 8 March 2014, on the basis of fabricated charges. Having never been brought to appear before a civil court, Shousha now faces a trial before a military court, in violation of international human rights law.

Arbitrary arrest

On 11 December 2014, Alkarama sent a communication to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) regarding the cases of five Egyptian citizens currently detained for their political views, Hudhayfah Magdy Abdel Moneim Abdel Fattah; Hossam Zaki Mohammed Mohammed; Ahmed Mahmoud Ahmed Hassan; Mahmoud Mohamed Mohamed Al Saghir; Mohamed Ahmed; and Mohamed Ibrahim.
