This Wednesday, 20 June, the Algerian government's request for the extradition of Dr Mourad Dhina was once again examined by the Paris court.
The Paris Court of Appeals today notified Dr. Mourad Dhina of the new documents which the the court had requested from the Algerian authorities, and in particular described a particularly crucial document: a referral to the Algiers Criminal Court dated 26 October 2004.
On Monday 21 May, the second cycle of the UPR – Universal Periodic Review – will begin at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, with the 13th session of the Human Rights Council Working Group on the UPR.

Dr Mourad Dhina was arrested on 16 January 2012 following a politically motivated extradition request by Algiers. Today, he has been held in the La Santé prison in Paris for 100 days.
Following up on the NGO recommendations issued in March 2012 in view of the General Assembly-initiated treaty body strengthening process, 26 human rights organizations, including Alkarama, have co-signed an NGO contribution on issues which should be taken into consideration during this process.
On 10 May, Algeria will hold legislative elections.

With the court room completely full, most of the people come to show their support for Dr Mourad Dhina were unable to even enter the court room.
Today, 24 international and national human rights organizations addressed recommendations to the UN General Assembly member states, in response to a surprising turn of events in the UN Treaty Body strengthening process.

The Egyptian revolution was hailed internationally as an admirable and justifiable act by the Egyptian people to demand social justice and freedoms that they have been denied for decades. It was therefore anticipated that, following this revolution, the interim Egyptian political authorities would prioritize urgently needed legal and procedural reforms to enhance and protect the Egyptian people's newly won rights.

Dozens of French, Arab and Western personalities petition the French Prime Minister, François Fillon, to ensure that Dr Mourad Dhina, detained for over two weeks in France on a politically motivated request from the Algerian government, is not extradited to Algeria and is rapidly released.
