Alkarama and a number of Lebanese and international human rights organizations have submitted a petition to the Parliament's Human Rights Committee, to investigate violations against Lebanese protesters arrested in connection with the recent popular demonstrations in Tripoli.
The petition submitted to the President and members of the Human Rights Committee of the Lebanese Parliament calls for questions to be put to the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Justice regarding the non-application of the Article 47 of Law No. 191/2020, the maintenance of the ban on lawyers attending the preliminary investigation into detainees and the lack of application of Law 65/2017 which criminalizes torture.
