On 3 March 2022, Alkarama addressed the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances regarding the situation of Omar Maher Abdel Zaher EL DESOUKY, an Egyptian engineer who was arrested without a judicial warrant by security forces at Cairo airport on 20 December 2021 while on his way to Sweden.

Omar EL DESOUKY (26) was arrested without any explanation and was then taken by the police to an unknown destination. His family, who has had no news since, has tried in vain to contact the police at Cairo airport and the central police in Cairo. All of them refused to recognize his arrest and detention. His mother then sent registered letters to the General Prosecutor and the Minister of the Interior without getting any response.

On 3 March 2021, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances to ask it to urgently intervene with the Egyptian authorities to clarify the fate of Omar El Desouky, to free him if necessary, and in any case to place him under the protection of the law.
