Update: Mohamed Adel was transferred to Mansoura Prison on July 3, 2018. Since then, he has been denied visits from his family and his lawyer. Adel is currently under investigation by the Sherbin Prosecution in relation to a new case, the circumstances of which remain unknown.

UPDATE: Abdul Wahab Al Jaghbir was released without charge on September 10, 2018.

(Geneva, June 20, 2018) – On June 19, 2018, Alkarama requested the urgent intervention of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) in the case of Abdul Wahab Al Jaghbir, a 33-year-old Lebanese-Jordanian citizen who has been missing since his arrest at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman on May 31, 2018.

On June 6, 2018, the report of former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism (SRCT), Ben Emmerson, was published following his country visit to Saudi Arabia between April 30 and May 4, 2017.

(Geneva, June 5, 2018) – On May 31, 2018, Alkarama requested the urgent intervention of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) in the case of Meyasar Mohammad Saleh Faek Omar Al Noaime, an Iraqi colonel who remains missing since his arrest by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in February 2017.

(Geneva, June 6, 2018) – Intensive care doctor Yahya Kamal has reappeared 12 days after his arrest at Cairo Airport on May 22, 2018.

Kamal was arrested upon entering border control at around 4 p.m. on May 22 while on his way to Saudi Arabia for a work trip. Kamal’s wife and brother, who were there to see him off, witnessed him being arrested by national security and border patrol officers.

(Geneva, May 30, 2018) – On May 18, 2018, Alkarama submitted a report with ten cases of reprisals across six countries in the Arab world to the UN Secretary-General (UNSG) in preparation for his annual report on reprisals against individuals who cooperate with the UN.
