On 28 January 2007, Alaa Ghazzaoui and Ahmed Rachid were returning to Lebanon from their pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca. While driving in a car with their friend Moheib al-Rachid, they were stopped by Saudi Intelligence services at a checkpoint near the Tabuk border crossing. According to sources, authorities presented a warrant for Moheib al-Rachid's arrest - however, they also took Mr. Ghazzaoui and Mr. Rachid into custody without presenting any legal document.
Youssef Hamdan Abu Zahri, brother of senior Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zahri, died on Tuesday in Burg al-Arab prison after sustaining critical injuries caused by torture at the hands of State Security Investigative (SSI) Forces at their Headquarters in Alexandria.

Youssef Zahri, a Palestinian national, was arrest in April 2008 in Al-Arish, near Egypt's border with Gaza, and accused of illegally entering the country through an underground tunnel.

At dawn on 8 May 2001 Hisham Mahmoud Diab, 51, a dual citizen of Dutch and Egyptian nationalitiy was arrested by State Security forces at his home in Heliopolis, Cairo. He was then tried and sentenced by a Military Court, despite being a civilian, to three years imprisonment.
As he was leaving his mother-in-law's home after lunch on 19 May 2008 Hisham al-Tabakh heard gunshots nearby... He quickly ran to where he thought shots were fired and saw two policemen harassing an 80 year old man. Mr. al-Tabakh approached the officers and tried to reason with them, but instead they dropped the old man and attacked Mr. al-Tabakh.
On 20 February 2006, Mr. Abdullah Zuhair was arrested in Jeddah by agents of the intelligence services based on the grounds that he had had "contacts with members of the opposition". These charges only came after three years of detention. During his detention he was never informed of the reasons for his arrest or the legal proceedings against him.

Abdullah Salem Zeid Zuhair, 45, owns a local Internet café in Jeddah. He was arrested on 20 February 2006 by agents of the intelligence services (Al-Mabahit) at his workplace.

Nearly 16 months ago, in June 2008, Abdelsalim Salim, 35, and Akbar Omar, 33, two Uyghers, were arrested with their wives by State Security forces in Dubai. They have been held in solitary confinement since their arrest and are currently detained in al-Wathba prison, Abu Dhabi's central prison.

At the time of their arrest they were threatened with deportation to China, where they would have faced execution, if they did not sign false confessions.

Alkarama has received news from Egypt regarding the arrests of two separate groups in Al-Buheira and Munufeya Governorate.

12 Muslim Brotherhood members arrested in Al-Buhira

On 26 September 2009, the following 12 people were arrested by State Security forces in Al-Buhira:

1. Mohamed Gamal Ahmed Heshmat (Assistant Professor, Institute of Medicine of the Alexandria University)
2. Mohamed Mohsen Ibrahim Swaidan (retired)

Alkarama has just received news of two further extrajudicial killings by Egyptian security forces.
While studying in his home in Agadir, Abdelkarim Azzou was arrested on 21 June 2003 by police and security services. He was forcibly arrested by four officers dressed in civilian clothing who took him into custody without providing a warrant. His family was only able to re-establish contact with him a month later.
Today, 28 September 2009, 10 years have passed since the day Malik Medjnoune was abducted near his home in Tizi-Ouzou by the Algerian secret services of the Department of Intelligence and Security (DRS).
