On 17 September 2010, Issam Mohamed Tahar Al Bargaoui Al Uteibi was summoned by the Jordanian General Intelligence services and immediately arrested.

At noon yesterday, Monday 28 September 2010, Alkarama learned that Ashraf Muhammad Yusuf Abd Al-Salam was released by Jordanian intelligence services.

Mr Abd Al-Salam Ashraf was arrested on 28 June 2010 following a summons by the General Intelligence Services in Amman. He was immediately arrested, put in secret detention and tortured.

Ashraf Abdulsalam was arrested on 28 June 2010 after appearing for questioning at the Jordanian Intelligence services' headquarters in Amman. He was held incommunicado and reportedly tortured while in custody.

Alkarama submitted his case as an urgent appeal to the Special Rapporteur on Torture, requesting his intervention with the Jordanian authorities. Alkarama has requested that a full and impartial investigation into the accusations of torture allegedly carried out by Jordanian intelligence services - in an effort to identify the perpetrators and punish them.

Alkarama has just received information regarding the arbitrary arrest of a Jordanian citizen, Mohamed Al-Sunaid, Chairman of the Daily Workers Association in the Public Sector. He was arrested by the Jordanian security services for his peaceful protest in defense of the rights of Jordanian workers and trade union members.

Mohamed Sunaid was referred to the State Security Court on 11 May 2010, where the Prosecutor ordered his 14-day imprisonment pending investigation.

During the early hours of Monday 1 March 2010, criminal investigators and security personnel from Aydoun, Irbid governorate, raided Said Mahmoud Talafaha's home, where he lives with his wife and infant daughter. During the brutal raid, both him and his daughter were injured - the two are now in hospital.

Following the prolonged house inspection, Said Talafaha was taken to a security centre where criminal investigators and General Security officers tied him down and lambasted his legs and arms with work tools.

A reliable source has informed Alkarama that, on the night of 7 November 2009, Jordanian authorities arbitrarily detained Yousef Anwar Abu Sharby and Jamal al-Sarawi in al-Zaraqa province without presenting a warrant for their arrest - they were later taken to the Intelligence services' prison.

AlKarama has learned that Mr. Issam Al-Uteibi has been released on March 12, 2008. Arrested on Nov. 28, 2002, he was kept in detention without legal process and despite a judgement of acquittal on 27 December 2004. To protest against this situation, he started a hunger strike on February 4, 2008. The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, sought by AlKarama had issued an opinion in which he considered his detention as being arbitrary.
