Egypt: Security services wound 30 in election rally, arrest 13 injured from hospital

At least 30 Muslim Brotherhood supporters were injured on 29 May 2010, as Egyptian security forces attacked an election rally organized by residents of Abu Homs in Al-Baheira governorate. The following day, security personnel raided Abu Homs hospital and arrested 13 individual who were receiving treatment for injuries sustained during Saturday's violent barrage.

On Saturday afternoon, 29 May 2010, security forces, led by Inspector Gamal Abdel Ati and Head of the Abu Homs Police Investigation Bureau, Chief Amr Allam, forcefully attacked supporters of Muslim Brotherhood candidate in the Shura Council elections, Mohamed Awad Al-Zayat, with tear gas and rubber bullets, eventually resulting in 30 injured, most of whom are in critical condition at Abu Homs hospital.

This attack came ahead of a visit by National Democratic Party "Governor", Ahmed Abu Ezz, who planned to visit the towns of Abu Homs, Housh Issa and Abu Al-Mattamir, in Al-Baheira in order to hold a National Democratic Party convention on the topic of how to face the Muslim Brotherhood candidate and consequently banned journalists from attending the event.

During the same attack, security forces kidnapped two key members of the Mohamed Al-Zayat's legal team : Gamil Deif and Ali Adeeb.

Reliable sources have reported that some of the wounded are in serious condition and that three individuals have been transferred to Alexandria University Hospital; one of them has lost an eye as a result of the gunfire.
Injured arrested at Abu Homs hospital and charged with assault

On Sunday 30 May 2010, security forces under the command the Head of the Abu Homs Police Investigation Bureau, Chief Amr Allam, entered Abo Homs hospital and kidnapped 13 victims while they were receiving treatment for the injuries sustained in the previous day's attack. The security forces began tearing up the victim's hospital passes, in order that they be presented to the Abu Homs Prosecutor General on charges of assaulting security services and riot police as well as a destroying a police vehicle. Witnesses however confirmed that they saw Chief Amr Allam and a group of informants smashing a police car in search of fabricated charges.

Witnesses reported that the Chief Amr Allam and his entourage filed an official report with the Abu Homs Police Constable, Alaa Al-Din Shawky. He is allegedly made false medical reports for four central security officers, and then charged the injured civilians with assault and destroying a police car. Sources have confirmed that Mohamed Al-Zayat's legal defense team has many witnesses, which will be presented to the prosecution during the course of the investigation.
